Breaking records reveals 8th CIIE success
he 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) wrapped up on Monday with a series of record-breaking achievements, underscoring China's strong market appeal and the expo's expanding global influence.
This year’s expo, which was held from Nov 5 to 10, saw a record number of attendees. As of noon on Nov 10, the 8th CIIE recorded 922,000 visits, up 8.2 percent year-on-year and the highest in the expo’s history. Deal-making was equally robust with tentative deals worth roughly $83.49 billion reached, a 4.4 percent increase from last year and another all-time high.
The Enterprise & Business Exhibition this year spanned over 367,000 square meters and brought together 4,108 companies from 138 countries and regions, setting new records in both scale and participation. Among them were 290 Fortune Global 500 firms and industry leaders, with 180 companies achieving the status of "regular attendees", as they have consecutively participated in all eight editions of the CIIE. Nearly 100 multinational corporations and major business associations sent senior executives to the expo, including chairpersons and CEOs from 10 top-tier companies, highlighting the strong magnetic pull of China's vast market.
As a premier platform for showcasing cutting-edge innovation, the expo further strengthened its debut effect. Exhibitors released 461 representative new products, technologies and services, including 201 global debuts, 65 Asia debuts and 195 China debuts. These spanned biomedicine, green and low-carbon development, and advanced equipment. New consumer trends — from the silver economy and pet-related products to self-care consumption — also emerged as highlights.
The Comprehensive Country Exhibition of the 8th CIIE, covering 30,000 square meters and featuring more than 100 events, attracted 67 countries, regions and international organizations to participate. China Pavilion showcased major achievements in China's economic and social development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, displaying 570 exhibits, the most to date.
The expo also introduced its first dual-city exhibition and "Charming Sister Cities" activities at its Comprehensive Country Exhibition. Leaders and senior officials from 19 countries, including Georgia, Serbia and the United Arab Emirates, attended related events. Multiple pragmatic cooperation agreements were reached through this year’s Comprehensive Country Exhibition, such as coffee partnerships between Brazilian and Chinese companies and a white shrimp trade agreement between Honduras and China.
The 8th Hongqiao International Economic Forum was held alongside the expo under the theme "Opening Up for New Opportunities, Collaborating for a Shared Future". The forum featured one main forum, 25 sub-forums and several closed-door sessions. For the first time, forum registrations exceeded 10,000 participants. More than 400 distinguished guests from government, business and academia joined the discussions, including eight Nobel Prize laureates. The forum addressed key topics such as trade security, multilateralism, the Global South and supply chain resilience, releasing 20 reports, indexes, standards and initiatives. This year also marked the fifth anniversary of the World Openness Report, with a Nobel laureate contributing a special chapter for the first time. The report also developed cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization to enhance its global reach.
This year's CIIE organized 43 trade missions and over 700 sub-missions, with registered visitors exceeding 460,000, up 7 percent year-on-year. The expo offered diverse matchmaking opportunities. Among them, the trade and investment matchmaking event attracted over 5,000 companies and industrial parks, generating more than 300 cooperation intentions. Centralized signing events produced nearly 600 agreements.
The 8th CIIE also organized 83 supporting activities and, for the first time, rolled out a themed China-foreign people-to-people exchange event. The exhibition area of People-to-People Exchanges reached 38,000 square meters.
The series of record-breaking achievements demonstrates the strong success of the 8th CIIE and has inspired more overseas businesses to plan their expansion in China through the CIIE. Preparations for the ninth edition are already well underway, with companies already having reserved over 80,000 square meters of exhibition area for the Enterprise & Business Exhibition.
