In 2023, China's die & mould production value exceeded 343.2 billion RMB, supporting its 35 trillion RMB worth of product forming industry. The die & mould exports exceeded 8.29 billion US dollars, increasing by more than 7%, and China’s share in the international market remained stable. The total die & mould imports were 1.026 billion US dollars, decreasing by 8%, indicating a strengthened self-sufficiency. In 2023, the overall investment growth trend of the die & mould industry in China persisted. The need for digitalization and automation improvement was clear. Green, low-carbon, and low-cost manufacturing has become a common measure. With the application of new materials and technologies for downstream formed components, higher lean manufacturing requirements emerged. The die and mould forming industry has seen personalized demand changes in providing lightweight and extreme-size forming services.

The Two National Conferences in 2024 made it clear that China will encourage a new round of large-scale equipment renewal and trade-in old consumer goods for new ones, which will strongly promote investment and consumption and will be favorable for the die & mould industry. It can be predicted that in 2024, the Chinese die and mould industry will witness a larger-scale renewal and technological transformation of various related equipment.

As the green low-carbon economy has become a new industrial development goal for all countries, China has proposed plans and strategies for green development. To meet the innovative market demands for new materials and processes, great opportunities have emerged for the die and mould industry. China’s transformation to low-carbon economy is boosting the industry, such as light metal replacing metal, plastic replacing steel, integrated die and mould forming parts replacing welding and assembly of multiple parts, micro-foaming technology replacing conventional plastic forming mould, and composite materials replacing metal forming die.
